Crochet Updates: Doilies

I have been a bit hesitant to try doilies or even use crochet thread, but I bought some size 10 crochet thread to test out patterns. Here are all of the ones that I’ve tried.

30 Days of Crochet: Day 29!

Day 29: Do you have any tips, or things that you’ve learned from crocheting?

Pace yourself when you are a beginner. For example, if you just started to crochet- DO NOT CROCHET FOR 6 HOURS AT A TIME! It hurts like hell. Sometimes the patterns do not work out as they say they would. Test out what you like, do designs in random colors. If it doesn’t always work out- then you made something new. 🙂

Totally random now, I cannot believe that it has already been 29 days since I started this. Jeepers. That’s a long time. Also, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is on again….I’m not sure why I keep watching it because the basilisk has scared the hell out of me since I was a small child, but I watch it. Perhaps it’s because Kenneth Branagh is in it. I loved him as Iago and Hamlet.

As for my current crochet project: I have 50 squares left out of the 200.

30 Days of Crochet: Day 28!

I’m doing this to avoid Doctor Who because it’s making me mad. Listening to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, not my favorite, but it’s helping a bit.

Day 28: Do you do any other crafts besides crocheting? What are they, and did learning crochet come before or after learning these other crafts?

I know how to sew and draw (Not very good, but I try). I started out doing needlepoint when I was a little girl and then learned how to sew on patches and such when I did girl scouts. I used to draw a lot before college, but not as much now. Last year, I learned how to latch hook when I was at our annual Civil War Reenactment and I’m starting to enjoy that. I also learned how to spin using a spindle and a spinning wheel. This was all before I learned how to crochet.

I also used to do a lot of other crafts when I was younger. I liked making sculptures and I also enjoyed jewelry. I would also make hemp jewelry because I learned how to do that at camp. I also the basic things that they taught in art and my old marketing class.

I guess that’s it. All of that was before crochet. I still am unable to knit.

30 Days of Crochet: Day 27!

Day 27: How do you acquire most of yarn? Online retailers, local yarn shops, swaps, or large chain craft stores? What’s your favorite?

Ummm…………I got most of mine from my grandmother. The ones that I have bought: I got one from a yarn shop called Knit Addiction in Clovis, CA (since I live in Fresno) or I get it at Walmart. I don’t really have a favorite just yet.

Anyone know of good (but affordable) yarns?

Comment below if you do know of any.

30 Days of Crochet: Day 26!

Day 26: Have you ever been a part, or wanted to be a part of a crochet-a-long? What was it? If not, why?

I have not been a part of one, yet. I do want to be a part of one later, but not at the moment.

Sorry that this is short, but it’s the 4th of July and I’ve been a bit busy/tired.

Happy 4th for Americans, happy Wednesday for everyone else.

30 Days of Crochet: Day 25!

Wow…day 25.

Day 25: Do you have a crochet book or a place where you keep patterns, ideas, size measurements? Post a picture of it!

My grandmother has let me use her crochet book fro when I first started, but I don’t use it. For patterns, they are on my Nook (aka NaNook [name that movie!], because you can name them. It was either that or Snookie….get it?) 🙂 I got this last year for graduation from my brother and grandmother (it’s supposed to be for textbooks, but the print is a twinge too small for textbooks so it holds patterns). I do happen to love my Nook because it has not died on me yet. I had a Pandigital E-reader and that lasted 10 days……I kind of void warranties.

For ideas I leave those on post-its and I put them on my bulletin board, but I’m not at Grandma’s so I don’t have a picture of my bulletin board.

Size and such: I do that as I start a project.

Other news! I have finished the last of the white squares for the afghan! I have 60 squares left out of the whole project and then I put them together! 😛

I finally got my Grimm shirt! 🙂 I really like the show. It’s awesome. I say that as I wear my Heroes t-shirt (did anyone else watch that show?), but it’s a great show.

I am also back home (as in home home, like, parents’ house) for the next few days because fireworks kind of scare my dog. I keep mixing up scare and square. Blah. What I like about being back is going back to my dogs. We have 4 dogs and I love them all and missed them so much. Here is Charlie (real name is Charlotte).

Now to get really mad at Dance Moms because Abby is Shady. Love the show, but that woman is throwing too much shade.
